Responsible Dog Handling in Public Places
Good public handling protects your dog, other people, and the reputation of every Rottweiler owner.
Published 28 October 2026 · The Maltese Rottweiler Club
When a large dog is well handled in public, it quietly changes how people see the breed. When it is not, the opposite happens.
Equipment and control
Use a well-fitted collar or harness and a secure lead suited to your dog's size and strength. Make sure the person handling the dog can physically manage it.
Courtesy
Give others space, ask before allowing your dog to greet anyone, keep your dog close on narrow paths, and always clean up after your dog.
Know the rules
Check the current Maltese rules that apply to dogs in public spaces and on beaches, as these can change.
