Choosing Appropriate Exercise for Your Dog
The right exercise depends on age, health and weather. More is not always better.

Exercise supports a dog's body and mind, but the right amount and type vary with age, fitness, health and conditions.
Puppies and young dogs
Growing joints can be harmed by repetitive, high-impact exercise. Ask your veterinarian for guidance and favour free play on soft ground, short walks and plenty of rest.
Mental exercise counts
Scent games, food puzzles and short training sessions can tire a dog as effectively as a long walk — and are valuable on hot days.
Heat
In Malta's summer, walk early or late, avoid hot pavements, carry water and stop at the first sign of heavy panting or weakness.
